Kiss may have been fatal to peanut-allergic teen

Saturday November 26, 2005
Here's something else for parents of children with peanut allergies to worry about. Bad enough that using a utensil that's touched peanut butter or sitting at a cafeteria table where peanut butter has been eaten or eating a candy bar made with the same machinery as peanut candy might cause an unexpected health crisis. Even the most informed and overcautious parent might have trouble anticipating this: A 15-year-old girl has apparently died after kissing her boyfriend, who had eaten peanut butter. An autopsy will deliver the final verdict as to whether the kiss was lethal, but given the extreme sensitivity of children with peanut allergies to even remote amounts of contamination, it seems plausible. Add this one to your list of precautions.
