Neurological research you'll actually enjoy reading

Tuesday December 6, 2005
I first read Oliver Sacks' "An Anthropologist on Mars," today's addition to the Harried Parent's Book Club, when it was published in 1995, in my first year of parenting children with neurological disorders. Although it doesn't specifically address parenting issues, the book's look at the ways in which problems also bring possibilities fit entirely into my way of thinking about my challenged but charming kiddos, and shaped my thinking about disabilities and abilities. If you're looking for something that will be both enjoyable to read and educational, this may be a good title to add to your wish list for a holiday gift that's not all work and no play. Another intriguing read that will expand your understanding of the way the brain works, "An Alchemy of Mind" by Diane Ackerman, will be reviewed tomorrow. ... Have you read "An Anthropologist on Mars"? Rate it in the book club forum.
