Question of the Day: Dinnertime

There's a scene in the Disney Channel movie "Tru Confessions," about a teen and her developmentally disabled twin brother, that rang particularly true for our family. The parents and kids are having dinner together, and with one thing and another the boy ends up knocking over his glass and spilling milk on the floor. The father explodes with "Can't we ever just get through a meal?" Those words have been heard around our table more than a few times, along with "Use your fork!" "Be quiet and eat!" and "Calm down!" (said to a parent as often as to a kid). As today's book selection indicates, mealtime can be an important time to include people with special needs in the family and community, but man, it can also be stressful, can't it?
