Question of the Day: Bullying
Tuesday December 20, 2005
My daughter is being harassed on a regular basis by boys who call her stupid, an idiot, and uncool. One of them is her own little brother, and although I make it clear to him that it's not okay, I know that his diagnosis of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder makes it difficult for him to stop words as they rush headlong from his head out his mouth. The other is a fellow special-education student who ... well, who I'm pretty sure has a very similar diagnosis to my son's. It's a real quandary for a special-needs parent who can see both sides of the equation, and feel sympathy for both the learning-disabled girl who's being bullied and the behavior-disabled boy who's doing the bullying. Does your child have problems with bullying at school, on either end of that spectrum?
