Recipes your child will want to eat -- and help make

Thursday December 22, 2005
I first spotted "A Man, A Can, A Plan," today's Harried Parent's Book Club addition, at a Scholastic Book Fair at my daughter's school. I bought it for my husband, who, bless his soul, is our family's chief cook. He's always complaining that recipes from the "30 Minute Meals" cookbook take him an hour-and-a-half, so this small volume, with mostly canned ingredients and very little chopping required, seemed like both a good option and a good joke. We've been dining on these informal specialties ever since, and darned if it's not some pretty good grub. More of interest to families of children with special needs, the simple, illustrated recipes make it easy for kids to help with dinner, and the fact that many use SpaghettiOs or baked beans as a base means that all but the most finicky will be happy to eat it, too. If it's too late to pick up a copy of this rugged cardboard volume for a stocking stuffer, it might be a good start to some New Year's Resolutions. ... Have you read, or cooked from, "A Man, A Can, A Plan?" Rate it in the book club forum.
