Study reports on self-injury at Ivy League schools

This month's issue of the journal Pediatrics includes a disturbing study on the prevalence of self-injurious behaviors like cutting and burning among students in two Ivy League colleges. Nearly a fifth of students participating in an online survey at Cornell University and Princeton University reported having had an incident of self-injury during their lifetime, and three-quarters of those had done it more than once. According to an Associated Press report on the study, psychologists report that the increase in cutting extends to high school, middle school, and even elementary school students.
