Question of the Day: Spare textbooks

Thursday August 10, 2006
It's the time of year when organizations like the American Occupational Therapy Association start sounding the alarm about excessive backpack weight. Ideally, that load will be less than 15% of a child's overall body weight, but get a good binder going and a textbook or two for homework and you're already likely way over over that. This is one area in which parents of special education students often have an advantage over their regular education peers, because we have more excuses for getting a set of textbooks at home. The main reason may be improved studying or completed homework, but a lightened load's at the very least a nice side benefit. Do you regularly get an extra set of textbooks for your child to use at home? Pick an answer from the choices at right, or select "other" and explain yourself in the comments.
