Special education school, lesson #11: PWN

Thursday September 21, 2006
Parenting Special Needs class is back in session, with instruction each school day from now to the end of the month on special education words and concepts you need to be familiar with. Today's topic is Prior Written Notice, which your district has to give you before they pull any fast ones with your child's special education program. No, really, they can't just do it and forget to tell you -- it says so in IDEA. Open your Web browsers now to the definition of PWN and begin reading, then review previous course work using the links below. You have a quiz tomorrow! So what can you do if the district merrily messes with your child's services without giving you fair and legal warning? Read up on how to report an IEP violation and issue some warnings of your own.
