Halloween Site of the Day Special: The Parenting Special Needs Site of the Day has been taken over by goblins and, throughout the month of October, will feature a daily site offering Halloween help and happiness to kids with special needs. This ambivalent assemblage from the "author" of the Series of Unfortunate Events books has made our Site of the Day roster before, but it seems like a good day to revisit it because a) the last book in the series, The End, is being released today, and b) the unlucky Baudelaire children seem to be the very personification of Friday the 13th. On the site, you can download "dire diversions" like a crossword puzzle, word search, and secret code; view some "vile videos"; send an e-card; and learn more about "the afflicted author" and "the ill-fated illustrator." The Halloween season may be a good time to get your child hooked on this reluctant-reader-friendly series, or build on an existing enthusiasm.
