Halloween Candy Game

Wednesday October 18, 2006
Halloween Site of the Day Special: The Parenting Special Needs Site of the Day has been taken over by goblins and, throughout the month of October, will feature a daily site offering Halloween help and happiness to kids with special needs. It's scary how many calories a kid can get from eating Halloween candy, but try as you may to explain why it's not okay to scarf several chocolate bars and a boatload of candy corn, some children need to see it instead of hear it. The Halloween Candy Game on the KidsHealth.org site gives that approach a try, letting kids drag pictures of candy over an increasingly uncomfortable pumpkin while the calorie count rises and rises and rises below. There are lots of child-friendly articles on health issues on this KidsHealth.org site, and they may come in handy, too: If your little one doesn't listen to that pumpkin and overindulges on trick-or-treat treats, an article called "What's Puke?" is close at hand to explain the consequences.
