Dealing with the turkeys in your life

Friday November 17, 2006
Thanksgiving is supposed to be a warm time for family to draw close, but too often it turns into a heated time for family to draw arms. If you're bracing for encounters with that sister who always talks about how great her genius children are doing, that cousin who always says there's nothing wrong with your child a few swats on the behind wouldn't handle, that aunt who has an opinion about everything you're doing wrong, that mother-in-law who keeps telling you how tired you look, here's a trick to try: Treat those insensitive, nonsensical, incensing people like little misbehaving children, and use your best behavior management strategies on them. "Dealing With Toxic People" shows you how to use behavior analysis, positive reinforcement and changing the environment to put yourself in charge, just as you do when it's your child who's out of control. You'll need to keep your expectations realistic, but you know all about that, right?
