Where do you stand on alcohol use during pregnancy?

Monday November 27, 2006
As we learned in an earlier post today, Rachel Weisz thinks it's okay to drink a little during pregnancy, and I don't think it's okay to drink during pregnancy at all. Doctors give conflicting advice, midwives give conflicting advice, relatives and strangers and commenters on blogs give conflicting advice, and while there seems to be consensus that alcohol can do grave harm to a developing child, there are an awful lot of people arguing that it didn't happen to them or their siblings or people in Europe, so it won't happen to whoever's wanting to take a drink right now. What do you think? Do you side with the movie stars and the folks who say it's important for pregnant women to relax and have a normal life, or do you side with the cranks like me who feel it's just not worth even the slightest risk? Pick an answer or two from the poll at right, then rant with me or at me in the comments.
