Site of the Day: Sprout Touring Film Festival

Wednesday March 14, 2007

The Sprout Touring Film Festival's mission is to bring "quality, educational, entertaining films related to developmental disabilities" to a screen near you. An outgrowth of New York City's Sprout Film Festival, the touring festival offers customized assortments of films, ranging in length from three minutes to two hours, to conferences, group homes, colleges, or other organizations that want to share these unique visions of life for the developmentally disabled.

On the site, you can find costs and contact information for setting up a festival showing; check to see if there are showings already scheduled in your area; watch previews of some of the longer films; and see some of the very short ones in their entirety via YouTube. One of those represented is the lovely, joyful "Dreams," in which children and adults with Down syndrome share what they're most proud of, and the dreams they have for themselves. It will make you cry, and smile like crazy.
