Site of the Day: The Sibling Support Project

Thursday March 22, 2007

Having a sibling with special needs can be hard on brothers and sisters, but siblings' needs for support are easily overlooked when Mom and Dad are busy trying to care for a needy child and keep their own heads together. The Sibling Support Project seeks to remedy that with "Sibshop" get-togethers and online support groups aimed directly at young family members of children with health, developmental, or mental health challenges.

From the project's site, you can find a "Sibshop" in your area; join the SibKids e-mail group with your child; read some stories "In Sibs' Own Words; order The Sibling Slam Book and other publications; and learn how to help the cause by being trained to give Sibshops or making a financial donation.

The project is also requesting photos and profiles of people with special needs and their siblings to mark National Siblings Day, April 10. If you'd like to contribute a photo of your kids, you can download a document with more information.
