Every Friday is book review day for the Harried Parent's Book Club, and today's selection, Unstrange Minds: Remapping the World of Autism, is a consideration of the "autism epidemic" from the point of view of a parent who's also a cultural anthropologist.
Even if you don't buy the premise that autism's rise is due to changing attitudes and rising awareness, the book is interesting for its look at the way autism is regarded in cultures around the world, especially India, South Africa and South Korea. It may make you feel a little more grateful for whatever services and support you've been able to find.
Read the Book Club review, then stop by the Harried Parent's Book Club Forum to add your opinion and ask questions. Coming next Friday: The Elephant in the Playroom.
