Camp Mom: Day 31

[My son's summer-camp this year is a do-it-yourself affair with a couple of friends from his special-ed class hanging out at our house. I'll post a run-down of our activities daily, for others who may be looking for ideas. If you're doing something fun, too, please share it in the comments.]
Day 31. Wow. The summer's moving along.
We finally had a cool morning, so we could go back to taking a walk around the neighborhood to start off our camp day. Then it was right to the kitchen table for a writing exercise (similar to this Portrait Poem #3). The kids drew pictures of themselves and then filled in blanks to reveal things they like, need, give, fear, feel, and more. It kept them involved for a decent period of time, unlike the crafts they've been blazing through, and afterward they got some free play time.
Before lunch, we played a game designed to increase money skills, from the Fun-Attic site (scroll down to "Exchange Change Game"). The kids rolled a die and took the number of pennies indicated. When they got five pennies, they traded them for nickels, and enough nickels got traded for dimes. It always surprises me to see how tricky this is for my daughter, who's joining us now that her counselor job is done, and for some of the other kids. We're going to play this game regularly now, adding quarters and dollars as they get comfortable with the concept.
It was grilled-cheese day for lunch, and then more free play before homework and journal writing. They still do love that free play, but it felt good to get back to more programming this week. We've got some good stuff planned for tomorrow, post-bowling.
Flushed Away update: Day 13. Sigh.
