Site of the Day: W.H.A.L.E. Program
You probably have plenty of worries about car accidents -- of family members being seriously injured, of being responsible for the injuries of people in other cars, of the rise in your automobile insurance rates. Here's one to add: If you're driving with your child in the car, and you are incapacitated, how will the emergency workers know what they need to about your child's special needs?
The W.H.A.L.E. Program has an answer for that, at least for kids in car seats: Put a sticker on the back of the seat (where it won't show unless someone's looking for it) that has the child's name, medical information, emergency contacts, and other important details; then put stickers on the windows of the car and the sides of the car seat to let responders know it's there.
For less than $4, you can get the kit with the stickers and explanatory brochures, so it's a pretty low-risk way to deal with a high-risk situation.
