Site of the Day: The Art of Elysium

Tuesday September 25, 2007

With a mission to encourage "working actors, artists and musicians to voluntarily dedicate their time and talent to children who are battling serious medical conditions," The Art of Elysium brings workshops on visual arts, theatre arts and music into hospitals and health-care facilities to provide ill children with distraction, self-esteem-building activities, and opportunities to build express their talents.

Visual arts programs include workshops in art, fashion design and photography. Theatre arts programs include workshops for acting/improv, comedy, filmmaking and playwriting. Music programs include workshops in mixing, performing, songwriting, and learning instruments, as well as concerts by musicians. Programs aimed at building children's self-esteem include makeovers, book-writing, and visits by artists and musicians to homebound patients.

From the organization's site, you can learn more about these programs, and find ways to contribute your talent or treasure.
