Enterprising Parent Shares Allergy Facts Fast

Friday January 25, 2008
Beyond a Peanut

Have you ever passed information about your child's disability on to a teacher or care provider, only to wonder whether that individual will bother to read everything you've assembled?

Dina Clifford worried about that. She realized her son's daycare providers would not be able to read all the books she had about food allergies -- yet it was essential that they have a full understanding of what it would take to protect him. So she did what parents have been doing to boil information down for kids for ages: She put the information on flashcards.

That was the beginning of Mind Flight, Clifford's business that sells peanut-allergy flashcards and placemats from an online store called "Beyond a Peanut." Mind Flight is the subject of my latest profile of Enterprising Parents. Read more about this parent-run business, and think about how you might translate your own solutions to your kids' problems into an entrepreneurial opportunity.

Do you have an online business related to your child's special needs? Tell us about it in the comments.
