Every Friday is book review day for the Harried Parent's Book Club, and today's selection, Sibshops, is an easy-to-read guide to what siblings of children with special needs want parents to know, and what parents can do about it.
It's also a quite-detailed account of how to set up a Sibshop -- a workshop that celebrates those siblings and helps them discuss all their conflicting feelings. You may not be in a position to get one of those going, but read through those pages anyway; there are some really wonderful ideas for activities and games for kids that you can apply to any sort of group gathering, or even some family playtime. I wish I'd had this book when I was casting about for things to do at my Camp Mom this summer.
Check out my Book Club review, then stop by the Harried Parent's Book Club Forum to add your opinion and ask questions. And if you're interested in buying the book, the publisher has a good deal going on through the end of February: Buy Sibshops and get Brothers and Sisters: A Special Part of Exceptional Families for half price.
Next week: Living Sensationally: Understanding Your Senses.
