Today is Read Across America day, and if your kids are in elementary school, that means there's a good chance they'll be coming home with a big Cat in the Hat hat or other Dr. Seuss paraphernalia. It's a day that often involves special storytelling, too, by guest readers or older students.

Don't let all that reading enthusiasm stop when the school day ends. The National Education Association, which sponsors Read Across America, offers some suggestions for parents on its site, too, including advice on reading to children and lists of books for different age groups.

This might also be a good day to start a reading routine, no?
