Site of the Day: About.com Patient Empowerment

Wednesday March 5, 2008

The National Patient Safety Foundation has designated this week, March 2 through 8, as National Patient Safety Awareness Week, and in honor of the occasion, About.com's Patient Empowerment guide, Trisha Torrey, is blogging each day about issues of medical safety that patients and their families need to be aware of.

So far, those safety slips have included hospital-acquired infections and surgical errors. There's also a poll for sharing your own experience with medical mistakes.

While you're on the site, check out such essentials as "The Wise Patient's Guide to Rights and Responsibilities," "Tools for the Savvy Patient," and "Choosing the Right Doctor for Your Medical Care." While the articles are written to empower patients to take charge of their own care, they're also useful for parents trying to stand up to doctors on behalf of their children.
