Site of the Day: Benefits for Children With Disabilities
The subject of SSI payments for children with special needs came up twice for me last week -- once when a special education director at a meeting said she was shocked parents didn't know much about it, and once when a parent in a waiting room mentioned that she didn't know much about it.
A good place to start looking for information on whether your child might be eligible for Supplemental Security Income -- or the adult version, Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) -- is this informational online booklet from the U.S. government, "Benefits for Children With Disabilities." From there, you can follow links to more in-depth publications and applications.
