Site of the Day: St. Baldrick's Foundation

Tuesday May 20, 2008

My daughter's current TV addiction is the Nickelodeon show The Brothers Garcia, and one episode she's watched several times lately involves the oldest brother shaving his head out of solidarity with a female schoolmate who has cancer. I thought of that story when I saw this site for St. Baldrick's Foundation, which takes that charitable impulse to go bald for a buddy and makes it into an actual charity.

St. Baldrick's organizes events in which volunteers can take pledges for shaving their head, with the money going toward cancer research. On the site, you can find an event near you; post a photo of yourself with hair to help gather donations; read the stories of children with cancer honored by event participants; and post your own child's story. There's also more information about the organization and where the donated funds go.
