In the Forum: "New to the World of G-Tubes"

Tuesday October 28, 2008

Some of us arrive in the world of special needs because our children are born with a disability, some fight for years to get a diagnosis, some are surprised when problems develop in older children or teens. For a parent posting in the Parenting Special Needs Forum recently, a child's disability came about due to an act of violence. In a message titled "About Us," IAmJocelyne writes:

I am new to the world of g-tubes my one year old daughter was savagely beaten early in the summer, she sustained such significant brain damage she is now left unable to walk and eat or sit up etc.. I was just looking for a support group so I can express my feelings and opinions and also to learn about her disabilities. And to be able to have people that are in similar situations as us. I have four girls ages 8, 3, 1, and newborn. I am facing a very long and difficult road ahead, having to deal with a newborn and trying to make the older children understand my one-year-old's needs and then also meeting the needs of the one-year-old.
