Weekday Reflection: Dreams

Read: "The idea that people with disabilities have something to contribute to society or that they have the right to pursue the American Dream sounds like a foreign concept to many members of our society. If there is any acknowledgment of rights, it is generally no more than humane care with little opportunity to be a contributing member of society. Adults with disabilities deserve a dream, too." -- Peggy Lou Morgan, Parenting an Adult With Disabilities or Special Needs

Reflect: What would the American Dream look like to my child? What would "the pursuit of happiness" mean? What can I do to make those dreams a reality?

Respond: Your child's dreams may not be what you would have dreamed of, but they're meaningful for your child. Work with your child, your school, and your local service providers to integrate those aspirations into plans for life after adulthood.

Every weekday, take a moment to read, reflect, and respond to a passage from a book, blog, or article.
