Weekday Reflection: Advocacy

Follow me on:

Read: "I'm not stuck in this world with those who would demean and exclude persons with disabilities. It is my desire to grow as an advocate such that they feel that they are stuck in this world with me and people like me who will not stand for the injustices that are leveled against persons with disabilities." -- Jeff McNair, Disabled Christianity

Reflect: Do I feel stuck in a world that is intolerant and unwelcoming toward my child? Do other people seem to feel stuck with my child when I try for inclusion in schools and activities? Do I sometimes hold my child back because of that?

Respond: It may seem easier to lay low and not bother an unaccepting world with your child's special needs, but the key to your child's future is making that world more welcoming. See what disability organizations are doing about that in your area or on a national level, and move that work forward with your time and donations. Check my diagnosis index to find organizations dedicated to advocating for children like yours.

Every weekday, take a moment to read, reflect, and respond to a passage from a book, blog, or article.
