Weekday Reflection: Worries
Read: "I think, when a child is born with Special Needs, any special need, most parents instantly fear for the future. Will they be able to take care of themselves? Drive? Live on their own? Become parents? Be teased in school? Will they be able to keep up with their peers? Will they be liked? Accepted? But really, these are things I think about with ALL my children. I know plenty of 'adults' who can't take care of themselves." -- Renee Garcia, Life With My Special Ks
Reflect: Can I imagine the worries I have for my child in terms of the worries all parents have? Do I forget that no child has a guaranteed perfect future? How do my worries for my child with special needs differ from my worries for other children in the family?
Respond: It's impossible to put away all worry, but sometimes thinking in the short-term can keep your eye on things that can really be addressed right now. Focusing on today rather than tomorrow also helps you enjoy your children right where they are now.
Every weekday, take a moment to read, reflect, and respond to a passage from a book, blog, or article.
