Site of the Day: Charlie Porter Research Grant
What It Is: "The Charlie Porter Research Grant will award a goal of $50,000 to one research scientist (possessing an M.D., D.O. or Ph.D). The purpose of this grant is to support experienced investigators with a promising new research approach relating to the etiology, treatment and cure of Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in children. This Grant represents one important piece of the puzzle toward understanding leukemia and allied cancers."
Who's In Charge: The grant is administered by the Twilight Benefit Foundation, "a 501(c)3 charitable organization, existing to support and further social, philanthropic and humanitarian efforts to give something back... to the community and to our fellow man. Our focus is on social needs and concerns, the preservation of our environment, and the continuing research for the elimination of catastrophic disease. We strive with uncompromising passion to leave this world better than we found it."
Why It's Worth Checking Out: The grant was inspired by the brief life of Charlie Porter, who died of AML at age 3. "Charlie’s fight still fuels the Twilight Benefit Foundation and this Charlie Porter Research Grant is one more step toward curing Leukemia in children."
Where to Start: Buy a T-shirt to support the cause.
