Hannah Montana Tries the Diabetes Episode Again

Remember that diabetes-themed season opener of the Disney series Hannah Montana that got pulled last year after parents of kids with diabetes got a gander at it? It's baaaaaack.

According to an article in the Columbus Dispatch, the episode will make its official debut this Sunday at 7:30 p.m. There's been a title change -- from the original "No Sugar, Sugar" to the new "Uptight (Oliver's Alright)" -- and the article mentions that "Disney producers worked with officials of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in rewriting and editing several scenes. An introduction to the episode directs viewers to learn more about type 1 diabetes at www.JDRF.org."

The difference must be in the execution, because superficially, the plot doesn't seem to have changed much: Miley and Lilly react to the news that their friend Oliver has type 1 diabetes by becoming the Food Police. Presumably, the intended message is the same, too -- that, like Nick Jonas, kids with diabetes can live productive and adorable lives.

That's a good word to get out there, and it will be interesting to see whether it's presented in a way that avoids the complaints about the original version. Also, how they'll write Oliver's survivable but nonetheless chronic illness into all the wacky hijinks to come.
