What It Is: An online series about five young adult housemates with special needs -- four with Down syndrome, one with Williams syndrome.
Who's Behind It: "TV producer/director Katy Lock and web developer Daniel May have teamed up to create this website and documentary series. Filming has been ongoing since April 2009 with Katy following the Specials around with a Sony Z5 camera, and them both editing in their flat's spare bedroom. The housemates provide the voiceover to the series and have also collaborated with Dan in the development of the website and as a result we hope this site is the Specials sharing their world on their own terms."
Why It's Worth Checking Out: It's like a college soap opera with a twist, an attempt to show the lives of people with disabilities without it being a Very Special Episode. In an article about the web show in the Guardian, the mother of one of the housemates is quoted as saying, "It would be excellent for people to realise that they can live a life that is as mainstream as possible, and that they are capable of doing what everyone else can do."
Where to Start: Meet the housemates.
