It doesn't always work perfectly, as my latest delivery at the worry dump attests. But in general, you should see yourself and teachers and administrators and therapists and everyone else who interacts with your child as members of one big team. Sometimes you pass the ball, sometimes you carry it, and sometimes you sit on the bench, but you all have your eyes on a common goal: getting your child safely and successfully through school. Often, parents feel like they're on the opposing side from the school -- and maybe like a high school JV squad playing in the Super Bowl. But if you can, frame your interactions with school personnel as though you were all on the same team. Collaboration generally works better than collision in getting an appropriate school experience.
