I'm a big believer in volunteering at your child's school. I learned so much from hanging out at the school library in my kids' elementary and middle schools, and built up relationships with school personnel that could never have blossomed in the stressful environment of the IEP meeting. I realize, of course, that for many parents, the large school-hour time commitment I made would not be possible. That's no reason to give up on school involvement, though. Here are seven school-volunteer opportunities that are a little more flexible about when and how the work gets done. See if one of them fits into your schedule.
