Help Your Child Prepare for Parties at Home

You know you're in for a challenge when you take your child away from home for a party or family event at somebody else's house. The break in routine and need to behave on another household's terms are tough on kids with special needs -- but so is having others infringe on their own personal spaces. If you're having people to your house, don't assume your child will be okay with it because he's home where things are familiar; interlopers, however friendly and loving, put the familiar at risk. Help your child guard his territory, establish a safe base, and maybe even enjoy the festivities with the tips in "Before You Throw a Holiday Party."
