Excellent sentiments. Parents often shortchange themselves, feeling they aren’t knowledgeable. In truth, parents are the most important and best advocates for their children. Accepting this fact and taking it to heart really empowers parents!
In my years of teaching, I found that if I respected the children, they would respect me. Usually, that was also true of parents and educational professionals, but occasionally I got that you’re-only-a-teacher attitude. I’m sure parents of special children are often on the receiving end of a similar attitude, but indeed parents know their children in ways that professionals cannot.
When Self respect comes first respect from others is bound to follow.
