I have voted on other websites and if I tried to vote more than once a day from the same computer, I would be blocked and would get a message that I had already voted for the day.

I’m wondering why this voting contest allows you to vote more than once a day. I discovered this yesterday and tried it again today. Bottom line: I have been able to vote more than once a day using the same computer (I only have one). A second vote will not register if you cast a vote and then immediately vote again. But if you wait a few hours, and then cast another vote – the vote counts. I don’t know what the waiting interval is that makes this work.

My issue is why have a rule if it doesn’t mean anything? But maybe everybody already knows this and is okay with it. God knows at times I can be an old fussbudget. Take care everyone….I admire you all.

Linda, I share your frustration. I know the polls aren’t perfect. In this case, both the rules and the polling method are decided by About.com, based on several years of doing this contest on the technology guidesites. The problems are recognized and solutions are being strategized, but for this year anyway, it is what it is.

If this were a contest for money or trophies or fabulous prizes, I’d be more fussbudget-y about the sanctity of the polls. In this case, when it’s more about fun and bragging rights and showing our enthusiasm for these terrific resources, I’m okay with asking people to vote once a day and not game the system. Maybe that’s optimistic, but I’m not sure there’s any kind of online poll anywhere that determined people can’t get around.

My frustration is just the opposite of Linda V’s concern. I have 3 machines, 4 voters, but only 1 vote. All three machines are connected to the same router, (perhaps that’s a clue). When we vote using each machine in turn, the voting tally doesn’t change. Any suggestions?
