Site of the Day: Toolbox Parenting, a site that offers "tips for tough kids," just added a much-needed resource for families dealing with the need to hospitalize a young person with mental-health issues. The "Roadmap to Hospitalization" is available as three separate downloads -- to help you know when to hospitalize, what happens when your child is admitted, and what happens if your child is not admitted -- or as one packet. At the top of each pdf is the message, "You are on a mental health journey with your child and you should be in the driver's seat." These roadmaps provide some thoughtful and easy-to-read navigational help on a rough road.

Thank you so much for sharing the resource: Roadmap to Pediatric Psychiatric Hospitalization. Moms whose children are experiencing the childhood mental health system the first time (and ongoing) will benefit from the information and advice offered ~ because each experience is unique enought without having a clue what will/might (or won’t/might not) happen next. I believe there is so much of a stigma attached to mental health issues, most moms feel like whatever happens is happening only to her family.

Thank you Pamela! I wrote the roadmap because of the frustration and complication of hospitalization, especially a denial. I’ve had the unfortunate experience of hospitalizing a child more than once, and I was hoping someone could gain knowledge on the front end of the process. I hope that you enjoy the rest of the site!
