This week's Harried Parent's Book Club selection is Optimistic Parenting, a book that made me feel ... well, not so positive, as it turned out. While I think the idea that parents' attitudes can affect both their children's behavior and their ability to do what needs to be done about it, something about the therapeutic focus on Mom and Pop for the first half of the book pressed lots of old parent-blame buttons for me and made me feel all kinds of defensive. In my Harried Parent's review, you'll find my short and somewhat-less-short take on the book, some thoughts on who might like the book better than I did, a look at the table of contents, and some ideas from the book that you can try out right now. If you've read Optimistic Parenting, add your review to mine -- and if you really like it, nominate it and all the other recent books you love for Readers' Choice Awards.
