Over the next two weeks, I'll be featuring a category a day in the Readers' Choice Awards, as I create galleries that feature the finalists and help you pick the blog, book, community, app, TV show, and regional resource you'll vote for daily.
First up is Favorite New Special-Needs Children's Book, a category with books that deal with autism, tactile defensiveness, pediatric stroke, and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. Since voting began last Wednesday, My Friend With Autism by Beverly Bishop has pulled into the lead, with I'll Tell You Why ... I Can't Wear Those Clothes by Noreen O'Sullivan in second place. ASD and Me by Teresa DeMars, My Holly by Julie Leavitt Wolfe, and Nuzzle by Donnie Kanter Winokur are farther behind but certainly not out of the race with weeks of voting ahead.
In the gallery of finalists for the children's-books category, you'll be able to see the cover for each book, read a message from the author and an excerpt from the book, and write your own review to tell other voters why you love it. I'll add links to the reviews as they come in, and also share them on my blog and newsletter -- so in addition to daily voting, writing a review is a great way to support your favorite in the category.
Please join me in celebrating these resources and fostering a friendly competition that honors all of these authors and their efforts to make life better for our kids. Read more about the finalists or vote for your favorite right now, and every day through March 21.
