I asked you to tell about your child's experience with bullying, and three parents have now shared their upsetting and infuriating stories of abuse at the hands of peers.
- Reader ProudParents told of her six-year-old being bullied on the bus. "He had to endure both the bullying of another child and unfair treatment of administrator in the school. He expressed to his private counselor that he felt like he was all alone and nobody had his back. I cry just remembering those days."
- Reader Lele recounts five years of abuse suffered by her child with cerebral palsy, intellectual disability, and ADHD. "We went to the principal, wrote letters, and spoke to the school board. Needless to say, no further actions were taken. We were blatantly ignored due to the students being in special ed. We have documented all incidents that have happened for our records. We talked to our child and ensured that it is never ok for anyone to treat her as such and that she should tell whenever someone hurts her."
- Reader Jane V told of her sixth-grader's assault by a classmate who couldn't "'handle' him because he acts different. He repeatedly taunted him at school. Finally on a Sunday he asked neighbors to pinpoint our house, came to our house and assaulted him. He threw J to the ground and kicked him in the face, neck and chest." The school's answer was to remove the victim from the class that worked for him and keep him in at recess. The parents' solution? A new school.
