Special-Education Acronyms Go International

By , About.com GuideSeptember 13, 2012

Follow me on:

IEPMy list of special-education acronyms got tweeted by some kind soul a while back, and another tweeter responded that a particular acronym was missing, perhaps because it was Canadian and my list was of US terms. And yep, that was the reason -- since my kids' special-education journey has taken them through US schools, those are the words and the letters and the battles I know. But certainly, if there's international alphabet soup out there, I'm happy to serve it up. I asked Nicole Eredics, who blogs at The Inclusive Class and has experience with special education in Canada, to write us up a list of Canadian special-education acronyms with a bit of explanation for them, and I've also created a Readers Respond form on which all of you can submit your own favorite or most-hated groupings of special-ed-speak letters. Let's give recognition to all the gobbledygook we can, shall we?
