Sometimes, you read about a person you really respect using the R-word or saying something disrespectful about people with disabilities, and your outrage is mixed with disappointment and concern over why an otherwise likable and well-respected figure would make such a slip. Other times, the person making comments that raise your blood pressure is someone who's in the blood-pressure-raising business, and then you worry that your outrage is only giving them what they want, another mention of their name in the news. Today, I saw a post on Winter Ramblings with a story that fits in the latter category: Joan Rivers, slinging insults on E's red-carpet coverage of the Grammys, dissed one outfit by sniping, "She looks like the Homecoming Queen for the Special Olympics." While it seems unlikely that someone of Rivers's outspoken brand of rudeness would ever apologize, if she does wish to express regret over her comments, I've got an apology template ready right here.
