Cerebral Palsy

Definition:

Cerebral palsy (CP) occurs when an injury to the brain impairs an individual's ability to use his or her muscles. Effects can range from mild clumsiness to severe physical disability. CP may also cause learning problems, sensory-integration problems or mental retardation, but the brain damage is static -- it doesn't get worse with time -- and physical, occupational and speech therapy can help lessen some of the effects.
