Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy

Definition:

Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy (MMD) is a genetic muscle-weakening disease that can cause muscle spasms, cataracts, heart problems and learning disabilities. It may be diagnosed in adolescence or adulthood, or a more severe form may be diagnosed at birth. The disease progresses slowly, and can be mild or severe in its disabling effects.
