Stevens-Johnson Syndrome

Definition:

Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS) is a severe allergic reaction to a medication or infection that can result in skin blistering, fever, and eye damage. It is potentially fatal, and can also cause blindness and disfigurement. Penicillin, phenobarbitol, and Ibuprofin are among the medications that have been causes of SJS, with a family recently suing the makers of Children's Motrin for not warning that SJS could be a side effect.
