Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) got its name because patience were perceived as being on the borderline between psychosis and neurosis. The disorder is marked by instability in personal relationships, self-image, and emotions. People with BPD often see the world as black and white, and flip unexpectedly between seeing a person or a situation as all good or all bad. While many people may have fluctuations in their moods and their feelings about themselves and others, the extreme intensity and unpredictability of those changes in people with BPD set them apart, and make them challenging to treat and to live with.
