From the Book's Back Cover: "Life is a treasure hunt for all children. However, there are difficulties for children with disabilities that other children don't experience (such as working extra hard on normal tasks, being teased, and gaining the courage to ask for help). Constructive ways of dealing with the frustrating parts of having a disability are featured in this book, as well as techniques for building a positive self image. This book emphasizes that all children can find both small and big treasures on their lifes' treasure hunts."
Excerpt from Your Treasure Hunt:
In grade school, I went to a special class for an hour a day to learn to read Braille, to type on a typewriter (this was before computers!), and to use a cane for traveling. I hated being different.
If you have a disability, you have learned things that not everyone knows how to do, like how to use a cane if you are blind, how to get around in a wheelchair if you need one, or how to sign and read lips if you are deaf. Learning these things takes extra time and work, but they make you stronger and smarter.
