Why Did You Choose Homeschooling?
Although we had been talking to the school for 2 years, explaining about the severity of my son's allergies, they still did not, would not remove dangerous foods from the classroom. they kept telling us they understood, but clearly didn't. I was in the classroom investigating(at the teacher's request) some premade icing they would be using for an activity later that day. Of course, it was unsafe, but before I even found it, I found in the same cabinet a giant warehouse store sized jar of peanut butter! Which for us, may as well have been labeled "kid poison". We pulled him the same day, and have never looked back!
How Are You Homeschooling?
We practice what we like to call relaxed homeschooling. We are fairly unschooly, but with a few "have to" things built in. We do use an online curriculum for the basics, and supplement with a bunch of great classes, all of which the kids pick on their own, except one. Hence the "have to" :) We do school year round, but only 4 days a week, our weekends are usually filled with fun activities that they are still learning alot at, they just don't notice!
Advice
- Try it, you might like it :) For us, it has completely changed our lives. I am lucky to have such a supportive husband and family. The kids are so much happier, not to mention how much less anxiety I have! As much as I hate the food allergies, it brought us to homeschooling, which has made us all so happy! If there were a cure tomorrow (please?) we would not send our kids back to formal school, we are all learning so much more than could ever be accomplished stuck in a classroom, and the process is so fun for all of us!!
