How Long It's Been Online

Since July 2010

Why I Started

I started this blog because I believe that FATHERS of special needs children have a unique set of needs/issues that are not typically addressed by currently available resources.

I am a former director of the Organic Acidemia Association (www.oaanews.org) and through this support group and many other venues I have met fathers of other special needs children and we inevitably begin to compare our situation, frustrations, and offer each other advice. This led me to the conclusion that men need a place to gather -- thus the idea to launch this blog.

How I Do It

The blog is subtitled: Reflecting on a 21-year journey as the father of a daughter with special needs.

In this blog I am sharing (and will continue to share) my personal journey as a father of a special needs daughter -- with the hope that this will encourage other fathers to join in on the discussion.

Over two decades of dealing with the challenges of raising a special needs child I have learned through trial and error. I wish that I had this sort of resource when I was facing these challenges every day.

Advice

  • I have seen many blogs and read many books that offer advice and inspiration, but they are written by women (mothers) but none written by men (fathers) ... fathers need to speak out and give a voice to the unique challenges that THEY face
