How Long It's Been Online

Since October 2010

Why I Started

The blog was created as result of the frustrations I feel advocating for my son in the school district where I live. I find many parents are in the same boat and not enough is said about the trials and tribulations of special education advocacy. I want to reach out to people to help bring about awareness to the many struggles parents face raising children with special needs. I think our special education system in the US can do a lot better at being less adverse to parents' concerns. However, we first need to know where the problems lie before adjustments can be made.

How I Do It

My goal is to write daily. The blog is a live reality journal. This is how I'm approaching it. I don't sugar coat. My blog is about advocacy for positive change in the special education system. Change can't happen if the facts are glossed over or diminished in any way.

I tend to write on my blog when my children are at school. I strive to write when things are fresh on my mind.

Advice

  • I think if you want to write a blog, just dive in and do it. It's a process that with practice improves over time.
  • Read blogs to get a sense of how other people approach it and get ideas.
  • Comment on blogs to help build a network with other people who have shared interests.
